What are the odds?

Following on from a previous post, another small (but well-matched) synergy between a story and a movie occurred over the Christmas break.

I’ve been re-reading at random some sci fi short stories and came across one first read five years ago. “Scout’s Honor” by Terry Bisson is in The Mammoth Book of Best New SF 18 but first came out in 2004. This is a moving time travel tale that deals with communication, friendship and what it means to be human.

It also has some passing refernces to “that turn-of-the-century Utah dude who sawed off his own arm with a Swiss army knife”. This in the same month that Danny Boyle’s film 127 Hours is released in the UK – a film about Aron Ralston, a Utah dude who sawed ……..etc.

What are the odds, eh?

No, seriously, can someone calculate the odds for this?
